The folks over at Corning made a huge mark on the industry last year with the introduction of Gorilla Glass, an ultra tough glass designed for use in smartphones, laptops and other displays including Sony's 2011 TV line. It's also capable of handing high-heat situation, which according to Corning VP Andrew Filson, "enables tighter design rules in advanced backplanes for higher resolution and faster response time." That means better visuals all around.
