Sharp Releases the LB-1085 108-inch LCD HDTV
Making good on their CES promise, Sharp has begun rollout of their 108-inch LCD HDTV.  The LB-1085 features a 108-ASV LCD panel with 400 cd/m2 brightness, along with a 6 ms response time and 176-degree viewing angle.  The rear contains 3 HDMI inputs as well as 1 DVI, 2 Component, and many other inputs and outputs.  With an atonishing weight of 430 pounds, don't count on wall-mounting this bad boy.  Thank goodness for the built on base.

Vizio Sued By Sony, Samsung and others over MPG2 Rights
The big boys of video, including Sony, Philips, Thompson, JVC, Columbia University and others, have sued video manufacturer Vizio in the Southern District of New York regarding issues over MPEG-2 licensing.

Pioneer Looks Toward LCD as Kuro Project Leads to Losses
Pioneer Corporation reported a loss for their fiscal year today, mainly due to the effect of the company pulling out of the plasma market. They abruptly stopped their critically acclaimed Kuro (the word for black in Japanese) line of plasma HDTVs only a few months before Fujitsu said they would no longer be making plasma HDTVs. It is widely speculated Fujitsu was the OEM providing Pioneer their plasma sets that were ultimately badged under the Kuro name.
