Every once in a while, Samsung releases something very cool for its home country of Korea – something we don't get in the States. The latest is a massive 75" ES9000 Smart TV with LED backlighting and all the things you'd expect from a high-end Samsung set.
If you want a big screen you've typically had to stick with projectors or DLP, but Sharp's LC-90LE745U changes all that. The new Aquos set takes LED backlit displays to a whole new level, by taking the size up to a massive 90 inches. And if that wasn't impressive enough, Sharp packs 3D and smart TV functionality.
The long awaited 55" OLED set from LG now has a price, or at least a price estimate. LG says to expect it to fall somewhere in the area of $10,000 when its available later on this year. You'll notice a few new things since CES too, including a carbon fiber backing that allowed LG to trim another millimeter off of the already svelte frame.
It's been a little while since we've heard anything new out of the Google TV camp, but LG is putting quite a bit of investment into the platform. The company's new Cinema 3D – for clarity's sake, that means passive – Google TVs are about to hit the market and they're looking incredibly appealing.
One of the most common complaints about watching 3D content is the need to wear glasses, and it's a problem that we've not conquered quite yet. Glasses-free displays do exist of course, but they've traditionally been a bit lacking. The new prototype from Dolby and Philips, however, has been impressing people left and right.
