If you've tried getting video from your computer to your television without an HTPC or standalone media player, you probably ran into a few problems along the way. Blu-ray players, game systems and even TVs are capable of handling some files, but usually not all.
The latest release from Tranquil really lives up to the company's name. The ixL doesn't use fans for cooling, which means that not only is it more reliable, it's almost completely silent to boot. It's also gorgeous. The aluminum and steel case, subdued front panel and option for a laser-etched personalization make the Tranquil PC ixL a great addition to the home theater.
One of the biggest gripes with video streaming is that it just doesn't live up to the quality of Blu-ray. In most cases it doesn't even live up to the quality of an upscaled DVD. That might not be a problem when you're watching Hulu on a 19 inch computer monitor, but take that same video to your 65 inch LCD and it just doesn't work.
It's always a shame to see products pushed back, and the Boxee Box in particular. The late release means we won't be able to get our mitts on it for another few months, and for the company it means potential lost profit.
When it comes to Netflix, nothing does it better than the Xbox 360. It's got a slick interface and quick response that makes searching through your instant queue a delight. The addition of Netflix to Microsoft's console has made the device into the main source of entertainment for a lot of people.
