DTV Shut-Off Test Sees Rise in Hotline Callers
This past Thursday May 21st saw cable broadcasters issue the first round of short warnings about the impending switch to DTV, and a record number of calls to the FCC’s DTV hotline were soon to follow.  Over 55,000 callers concerned about the switch were recorded, which greatly surpasses the standard 15,000 calls per day that had been recorded in the previous months.

Researchers Develop High-Capacity Discs
Nanotechnology may be part of our newest generation of discs, giving them 2,000 times the storage space of a DVD and effectively making them five-dimensional.  Swinburne University of Technology’s Centre for Micro-Photonics created nanoscopic technology that was integrated into a disc and increased its storage capacity without increasing its actual size.

HeadRoom Launches Two New Products
HeadRoom has unveiled their newest line: the Desktop Line, featuring the Ultra Desktop digital to analog converter (DAC) and the Balanced Ultra Desktop Headphone Amp (BUDA).  The Ultra Desktop DAC is selling now for $1299 and the BUDA is selling now for $1699.

Hulu Gaining on Youtube, but Still Far Behind
YouTube is still dominating the video streaming market by a large margin, but Hulu’s rapid growth indicates that consumer might be realizing the benefits of full-length programming via the Web.  The latest report from Neilson Online shows that YouTube holds the top spot with 5.5 billion stream accesses in the month of April, and Hulu coming in second with 373.3 million in the month of April.

Fox Increase Wolverine Piracy Projections
20th Century Fox of News Corp has announced a projected download figure for illegal copies of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” that is four times their initial estimate.  They now say that about four million copies of the movie have been illegally downloaded, a process which began on March 30th with a pre-released, leaked copy of the movie.
