The USPS is losing money like crazy and they've been trying hard to think of a way to get back to profitability. They've already announced that layoffs and shutdowns are happening and have even proposed stopping Saturday delivery, but the newest money-saving idea could really turn off customers that subscribe to Netflix and Blockbuster.

Just a few weeks ago, a new streaming site called Zediva opened its doors.  Response was immediate and the service was soon flooded with new members - so many that it had to cut off registration soon after. Zediva does things a bit differently than Netflix in that rather than playing a digital media file from a server, a stream from Zediva is straight from a DVD player.

Premium video on-demand content might not be for everyone.  At an estimated $30 a pop, renting a movie won't exactly be cheap, especially when compared to other options like Redbox and Netflix.

Watching movies at home can be compared to living arrangements.  DVD and Blu-ray ownership is like home ownership.  It’s not cheap, but once you own it, it’s yours.  In store rentals take up the role of the extended stay hotel.   They’ve got a mini kitchen and all, but you leave eventually.  Those one night stays on a road trip would be represented by RedBox.  Of course, this model completely misses that seedy motel that charges hourly rates and doesn’t ask questions.

It’s easy to ignore predictions set forth by the press, analysts, and even those in the business.  Of course, it’d be a shame to ignore someone that just might have some insight.  Take Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix.  He heads an incredibly successful company that seems to have jumped into streaming technology at just the right time.
