It’s a really cool week for Blu-ray. Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster flick finally comes to the home, and a fine adaptation of a picture book comes to life on your screen. But it’s the stuff you might not have heard of that really makes this week great.
Of all the companies pushing for 3D in the home, Samsung is clearly pushing the hardest. Their CES showing was more than evidence enough. They had 3D displays galore, most of which were showing the hit movie Monsters vs Aliens. They talked 3D up big during their press conference and even brought out Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks fame to give a talk.
This is a great week for Blu-ray bargains. In addition to some really excellent new release movies, there are several single disc double feature packs hitting the shelves. The Grumpier old Men two-pack will certainly satisfy the comedy lover, and the combo of Dirty Harry and Magnum Force should be more than enough for action fans.
This week’s releases are eclectic as ever. While rereleases and repackagings abound, there are a few films in there that are truly worth picking up. The rest though, you may need to be a fan already before considering it.
We’re about a week away from Valentine’s day, and there are a few Blu-ray releases this week for just that occasion. Of course if you’re not the romantic type, there’s a nice selection of action as well, including The Running Man and Halo Legends. Click to find out what else is coming out this week.
