Peter Jackson is all about advancing technology when it comes to movies, and the release of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' is helping to push forward technology when it comes to distribution.  The Blu-ray hits shelves on March 19th, but the digital version comes out March 12th.

If CES was any indicator, UHDTVs are going to be big over the next few years, and that means there's going to need to be 4K content to go along with them. The problem is trying to figure out just how to go about it, be it streaming, downloadable or disc based. The folks at the Blu-ray Disc Association have been debating on what 4K means for them and are giving strong consideration to 4K Blu-rays.

One of the big issues with UHDTVs right now is that there's nothing to watch on them – at least not natively.  You can upscale your 1080p Blu-rays but that's not quite the same experience. Sony is giving an option to help tide you over until they launch their 4K content delivery network this summer in the form of Blu-rays made especially for 4K sets.

‘The Expendables 2’ will be the First Blu-ray with 11.1 Channel DTS Neo:X
If you’re a fan of those gloriously overacted action films of the 80s and 90s then you don’t need a new reason to be excited about the November 20th Blu-ray release of ‘The Expendables 2.’ Of course, even the most Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Statham hating home theater enthusiast will find something exciting to check out in this release – it’s the first Blu-ray to include DTS Neo:X.

'The Dark Knight Rises' Blu-ray Due Out December 3rd
The final installment of Christopher Nolan's epic Batman series is coming to Blu-ray and a release date has been confirmed.  You'll be able to get your hands on the conclusion of the trilogy on December 3rd.  Those looking for the digital copy will be able to pick it up on the same day.
