Onkyo Announces World’s First THX Certified 3D Ready Receiver
The TX-SR608 is Onkyo’s first THX Certified entry into the world of 3D and it’s the leading receiver among three that were announced today.   All of Onkyo’s new receivers, and even their HTiBs, can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams, but only the 608 delivers THX certified 7.2 channel sound.

Pioneer Debuts 3D Capable, HDMI 1.4 Compatible Entry Level Receivers
Usually an entry level receiver sacrifices something big, especially in the sub $300 range.  Pioneer’s new entry levels though, are incredibly capable for the price. Pioneer’s new receiver line won’t rank high on the list of receivers for audiophiles.  It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles and it’s not going to blow any minds.  For the price range it’s in though, they’re pretty beefy receivers.

All 2010 Onkyo Receivers to Support HDMI 1.4
There’s a lot of potential for the new HDMI standard.  Sure, there’s a bit of oddness – like creating cables specifically for 1080i displays – but HDMI 1.4 can do a lot that 1.3 just couldn’t.  With HDMI 1.4 you can send an Ethernet signal along with the video and audio, or send a 4K video signal.  Onkyo’s new receivers are all HDMI 1.4 compatible, but they focus on the other functions of the standard.

Denon Recievers Get an Audyssey Upgrade
The Audyssey DSX surround technology that’s already in Denon’s AVR-4810CI and AVR-4310CI receivers will soon be available for the AVR-3310CI and AVR-990.  Audyssey DSX is a set of algorithms designed to push 5.1 channel surround past its limitations by adding height and expanded width to existing channels.  It synthesizes audio channels between the channels and controls delay, level and frequency response.
