Sonicweld Timpanogos
 Named after the highest peak in Utah, the Timpanogos from Sonicweld are machined from solid metal billets. Circuitry is also constructed with mechanical welds, eliminating solder distortion. Cavity resonance is eliminated as there are no panels to vibrate.

Eggleston Works Fontaine / Isabel
 The Fontaine and the Isabel are similar in design except for the Fontaine's two 6" drivers. Each employs a 1" cloth dome tweeter with a large diameter vent on the pole piece. A black Italian granite finish highlights both speakers. Stands for either loudspeaker will run you $500.

Revel Performa F30
 Revel also revealed the first loudspeaker for a new, lower priced, high-value line of speakers that will be introduced throughout 1999. Called the Performa Series the first model will be the F-30. The Performa series has a distinctive look, though it is more traditional than the Ultima series. The rounded front baffle is sculpted to reduce diffraction and three solid aluminum feet couple the speaker to the floor. It is available in a variety of wood finishes. What struck me most was the phenomenal bass response of this speaker that houses a single 10" woofer. During the demo it was played with no subwoofer added but I know of no loudspeaker that could have reproduced bass of this magnitude and clarity without a sub. If this first entry into the more price-conscious arena is any indication of the surround, center and subwoofer yet to come, Revel’s targeted $10,000 home theater package will surely be one of the best around.

Hales Design Alexandra
Hales Design demonstrated their latest loudspeaker, the Alexandra. The top portion that houses the midrange and tweeter tips down in order to adjust for the proper dispersion in a given room. Designed as a flat speaker out to 80kHz, the entire frequency range is smooth and warm. The characteristic elliptical cabinet comes in cherry and shiny black. Pricing wasn’t yet available but it’s expected to run between $25,000 and $30,000.

KEF Maidstone
 Synopsis of Product / Unique Features: Central to the design of these reference loudspeakers in the UniQ drive unit, used for the mid and high frequencies. The co-incident mounting allows "point source" operation in critical areas of the audio spectrum. The configuration caused the directivity of the tweeter to be matched to the midrange unit for a uniform soundstage. These dedicated drive units operate in separate bands, and can be individually amplified.
