• Established in 1952, Saul B. Marantz built and sold his first preamp named the "Consolette" out of his home in Kew Gardens, New York.  His insight into industrial design made way for future products such as the Model 7 & 8 preamplifier and the8B power amplifier. 

• During the 60's, the popularity of the Marantz Model 9 monoblock power amp was high among the audiophile community.  The Model 10B FM tuner came later in the decade as well.  Marantz also made a shift into designing components with transistors rather than tubes.  Marantz continued to flourish in the seventies with their extremely popular“2200” receivers.  

• Over the 1980's, the Marantz brand is sold to Philips Electronics.  As Philips led the charge on adoption of compact disc technology, Marantz built their first CD player; theCD-63.  This led to expanding into the video realm with the CDV-780 Laserdisc player.

• The nineties brought a renewed focus back to creating audiophile caliber equipment including the SM-80, their first THX certified amplifier.  The SR96 THX-certified receiver followed in 1996 and brought accolades from the high end audio community.  Sadly, Saul Marantz passed away in 1997 at the age of 86. 

• Over the opening of the new millennium, Marantz expanded out into building a variety of reference series components and have had critical success in that realm.  In 2002, Marantz Japan and Denon merged under the D&M Holdings corporation.  Other acclaimed brands in the D&M Holdings group include McIntosh , Snell Acoustics & Escient.

• Meridian's founders are Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd.  Based in Cambridgeshire, every Meridian component is engineered and built in the UK.  Meridian designs and manufactures digital surround sound products, CD Players, DVD players, Loudspeakers, preamplifiers / amplifiers, tuners and media servers.  Their U.S. based headquarters is located in Georgia.
