Batman: The Movie (1966) This is the movie based on the TV series, which was released while the show was still on the air.  The story is simple: Gotham City’s four most notorious bad guys (and the four who turned up most often on the series), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), The Joker (Cesar Romero), Catwoman (Lee Meriwether) and The Riddler (Frank Gorshin), kidnap a scientist to get their hands on his dehydration device.  It turns living things into neat little piles of colorful sand, and can restore them again later.  Somehow this is part of their plan to conquer the world, but it’s never entirely clear just how this was to be accomplished.  Police Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton) turns to Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) for help.  They have secret identities—millionaire Bruce Wayne and his ward Dick Grayson.  Only Wayne’s loyal and ...

Bridge Too Far, A Summer 1944.  The allied invasion of Europe, begun at Normandy, has Germany in retreat, but keeping allied troops supplied has snarled forward progress.  British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, Patton’s competitor on the European front, proposes a bold plan that’s accepted by Eisenhower: Operation Market Garden.  On a specified date, the allies plan to drop tens of thousands of paratroopers behind German lines in occupied Netherlands, all with instructions to take over control of three local bridges.  Doing so will keep the army rolling all the way into Germany.  It’s hoped that if the mission succeeds, the war will be over by Christmas.  Unfortunately, Lt. General Browning (Dirk Bogarde) does not give adequate thought to the dozens of ways the mission can go wrong and the precarious positions the different squadrons will be in if the support tanks and troops lead ...

Anger Management Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) is a much put-upon executive assistant to belittling catalog publisher, Frank Head (Kurt Fuller).  Dave has an attractive girlfriend, Linda (Marisa Tomei) he’s been in a relationship with for years, but has issues showing affection to her in public.  On a business trip, an unresponsive flight attendant and air marshal overreact to Dave’s request for headphones, accuse him of acting violently, so they taser him.  A judge (Lynne Thigpen), believing the claims that he violently provoked the incident, sentences Dave to sessions of anger management counseling with Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson).   Buddy is a bit of a wild, unorthodox character, and he pairs Dave with the aggressive, violent Chuck (John Turturro) as his “anger buddy.”  When Chuck provokes a fight in a neighborhood bar, Dave tries to act as peacemaker but ends up accidentally hitting ...

Heroes - The Complete First Season “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World”. These words became a household phrase last fall for television fans everywhere as the phenomenon that is NBC's “Heroes”, captured audiences around the nation. The series brings drama, action, visual effects, and intricate plot and character twists to the small screen. “Heroes”, a mixture of X-Men and Spider-Man, takes the idea of superheroes, transforms them into everyday people endowed with special abilities and places them around the world, unaware of their destiny. Some of them understand and accept their abilities, others are frightened of not being normal and still others have no idea how special they really are. No matter how they feel about their supernatural gifts, they all have something in common: all have become targets. They are targets for researchers, for politicians, for secret societies, and from persons within their evolved species. The first ...

Transformers "More Than Meets The Eye". Those immortal words have great meaning to millions of Transformer fans around the world. So when it was announced that Dreamworks and Michael Bay would be turning the famous 1980s cartoon into a live action film, there was natural skepticism. Even Michael Bay initially thought there was no way he was going to take on the Transformers project. Actor Shia LaBeouf, who plays Sam Witwicky, also thought that they were going to completely destroy the Transformer legacy. I will let you be the judge on whether they succeeded or not. Transformers follow the simplistic good versus evil structure. The Autobots defend the Earth and universe against the Decepticons. The war between them destroyed their home planet, and with the loss of the Allspark, the Transformers followed it to Earth. The Allspark, also known as the Cube, ...
